Buffer Pricing 2026: Plans, Per-Channel Costs and an Honest Review

Buffer pricing in 2026 is billed per channel. The Free plan is $0 for up to 3 channels, Essentials costs $6 per channel per month ($5 billed yearly) and Team costs $12 per channel per month ($10 billed yearly). A channel is one connected social account, so a LinkedIn profile and a LinkedIn page are two channels, and the bill grows with every account you add.

We checked Buffer's pricing page on October 19, 2026, and every price and feature below comes from it. If you are comparing other tools before you pay, our Buffer alternatives guide covers the field. This page sticks to what Buffer costs, what each plan includes, where the limits are and whether it is worth it for a LinkedIn-first team.

How Much Does Buffer Cost?

Buffer prices every plan per channel, per month, in US dollars. A pricing toggle lets you choose monthly or yearly billing. Yearly billing works out to two months free: $60 per channel per year on Essentials and $120 on Team.

Essentials$6$5$601Unlimited scheduled posts, first comment scheduling, channel groups, custom analytics, reports
Team$12$10$120UnlimitedEverything in Essentials, plus approval workflows, custom access and permissions, branded reports

Prices checked October 2026, from Buffer's pricing page. Essentials and Team both come with a 14-day free trial.

Free ($0): three channels to try it

Free gives you up to 3 channels, 1 user and 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time. A slot opens up again when a post publishes. You get 100 ideas, unlimited drafts, the visual calendar, a queue, the browser extension, the AI Assistant, a community inbox for replying to comments, and insights with a 30-day history.

What it leaves out is the stuff that makes a posting routine easier. There is no first comment scheduling, no channel groups, no hashtag manager and no custom analytics. You also get only 3 tags and one threaded post. It is a fair way to test whether Buffer's queue suits you, and a workable free scheduler for a very small setup.

Essentials ($6 a month, or $5 billed yearly): the plan most people land on

Essentials removes the Free limits. Scheduled posts per channel become unlimited, ideas become unlimited, and you get 250 tags. You also get first comment scheduling for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn posts, channel groups, a hashtag manager, notes, a performance overview, custom analytics, reports you can export as CSV, PDF or markdown, and custom UTM parameters.

The ceiling is people. Essentials includes 1 user. There are no approval workflows and no way to give a teammate access to only some channels. That is fine for one person managing their own accounts, and a hard stop for anything with two or more people.

Team ($12 a month, or $10 billed yearly): where collaboration starts

Team costs double per channel and adds the collaboration layer: unlimited users, approval workflows that manage who can draft and who can approve, custom access and permissions that decide which channels each person can use, and branded reports with your logo and a cover page.

Everything else matches Essentials. The jump from $5 to $10 per channel (yearly billing) is what you pay for the right to have more than one person and a review step.

What Counts as a Channel on Buffer?

Buffer's pricing FAQ defines a channel as one social account you connect, such as a single Instagram profile, Facebook page, LinkedIn page or TikTok account. Its example: five brands with an Instagram account and a Facebook page each is 10 channels.

Three details matter when you add up your own number.

  • LinkedIn profiles and LinkedIn pages are separate channels. Buffer lists them as different channel types, so a founder who posts from a personal profile and a company page uses 2 channels.
  • A Start Page counts as a channel. Buffer's link-in-bio page is included on every plan, but it counts towards your channel total.
  • Your free channels are not free after you upgrade. Buffer's FAQ says that when you move from Free to a paid plan, you pay for each channel, including the ones you had on Free.

What Does Buffer Really Cost for Your Situation?

Here is the arithmetic for three common setups, using the prices above.

A solo founder with a LinkedIn profile and a company page, on Essentials billed yearly. 2 channels x $5 = $10 a month, which is $120 a year. Billed monthly it is 2 x $6 = $12 a month.

A team of 3 that needs approvals, with 6 channels, on Team billed yearly. Say three personal LinkedIn profiles, one company page and two other accounts. 6 channels x $10 = $60 a month, which is $720 a year (6 x $120). Billed monthly it is 6 x $12 = $72 a month. Essentials is not an option here, because it has 1 user and no approvals.

An agency with 10 clients and 2 LinkedIn channels per client, on Team billed monthly. 10 clients x 2 channels = 20 channels. 20 x $12 = $240 a month. Billed yearly it is 20 x $10 = $200 a month, or $2,400 a year.

One caveat on the agency number. Buffer's pricing FAQ says it uses volume discounts: channels 1 to 10 are at the standard rate, and channels above 10 cost less per channel. The page text we checked does not state the lower rate, so treat $240 as the list-price ceiling and ask Buffer for the exact figure at 20 channels.

Cost at a glance by number of channels

ChannelsEssentials, monthly billingEssentials, yearly billingTeam, monthly billingTeam, yearly billing
1$6 a month$5 a month ($60 a year)$12 a month$10 a month ($120 a year)
3$18 a month$15 a month ($180 a year)$36 a month$30 a month ($360 a year)
5$30 a month$25 a month ($300 a year)$60 a month$50 a month ($600 a year)
10$60 a month$50 a month ($600 a year)$120 a month$100 a month ($1,200 a year)

Every cell is channels x the per-channel price. We stop at 10 channels because that is where Buffer says its volume discount begins.

Hidden Costs and Limits to Know About

Buffer's pricing is simple, but a few details change the real cost or the workflow.

  • Seats are capped, not priced. Free and Essentials have 1 user. To add a second person you move every channel to Team at double the per-channel price.
  • Approvals are Team only. There is no review step on Free or Essentials.
  • LinkedIn analytics differ by channel type. In Buffer's channel table, LinkedIn pages have advanced analytics and LinkedIn profiles do not. Both have basic analytics and community engagement.
  • LinkedIn posts publish automatically, with no reminder mode. Both LinkedIn channel types support automatic publishing. Notification publishing is for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
  • Fair use on "unlimited". Paid plans have unlimited scheduled posts per channel, subject to a fair use cap of 5,000 posts per channel. Buffer says no one has hit it.
  • API request budgets. API access is on every plan, with 3,000 requests per 30 days on Free, 7,500 on Essentials and 15,000 on Team. A heavy automation setup can use these up.
  • Channel lock after a trial. If you let the trial end on the Free plan with more than 3 channels connected, the extra channels are locked.
  • Card payments only. Buffer accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, Discover and Diners Club cards. It does not accept PayPal, checks or bank transfers.
  • Nonprofit discount. Buffer offers 50% off paid plans for nonprofits and charities.
  • Last price change. The pricing page says plans were last updated in November 2025, so older articles may quote different numbers.

What About Buffer's AI Assistant and AI Costs?

The AI Assistant is on every plan, including Free, and the feature table describes it as unlimited credits. So there is no separate AI price to add. The pricing page describes it as a way to refine and repurpose your content.

One limit is easy to miss. In the community inbox, AI replies are capped at 5 suggestions per week on Free and are unlimited on Essentials and Team. The page describes AI replies as AI that learns your voice. A Claude integration, described as managing your Buffer queue and drafting posts from Claude, is also listed on every plan, next to ChatGPT, Cursor and Zapier.

Is Buffer Free, and How Does the Trial Work?

The Free plan has no time limit. Essentials and Team each have a 14-day free trial. During the trial you can upgrade or switch to the Free plan. If you do not enter payment details, your account moves to Free at the end of the trial.

After the trial, scheduled posts still go out as long as their channels are not locked. The lock hits channels above the 3-channel Free limit. The practical advice: before day 14, decide which 3 channels matter and check what is scheduled on the rest.

Buffer for Teams and Agencies

Buffer positions itself as built to manage as many accounts as you do, whether they are your own brands or your clients'. You manage every channel from one dashboard and pay per channel, not per brand or per client.

For agencies the relevant pieces are on Team: unlimited users, approval workflows, custom access and permissions per channel, and branded reports. Channel groups on Essentials and Team help with bulk selection when scheduling.

Check these points before you commit a client roster to it:

  • How a client's accounts are separated. The pricing page lists channel groups and per-channel access. It does not describe a separate workspace per client with its own brand kit.
  • How clients review posts. The page lists approval workflows for who can draft and approve across your team. It does not say whether a client can review a post without a login.
  • Cost at your roster size. Per-channel billing is fair when each client has one or two channels. Ten clients with two LinkedIn channels each is the $240 a month example above.

Buffer Review: What It Does Well

  • It is simple. The plan list is a queue, a visual calendar, drafts and a board view for ideas, without a long setup.
  • The entry price is low. Free covers 3 channels, and one channel on Essentials is $5 a month billed yearly.
  • It covers many networks. Buffer lists LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, Bluesky, Mastodon and Substack. That is useful if your audience is not only on LinkedIn.
  • Per-channel pricing is predictable. You can work out the bill with a calculator, and you stop paying when you disconnect a channel.

Buffer Review: Where It Falls Short for LinkedIn-First Teams

None of these are flaws in a general scheduler. They are gaps if LinkedIn is the channel that earns your pipeline.

  • AI drafting is described in general terms. The AI Assistant is described as refining and repurposing content, and the voice-learning claim on the page is about comment replies. The pricing page does not list a writing style per LinkedIn profile, a weekly content plan, or a knowledge base that drafts pull from.
  • No carousel or infographic editor is listed. The page lists a Canva integration for importing content, but no built-in design editor for LinkedIn carousels. If carousels are central to your content, check whether Buffer covers your needs.
  • Client separation is thin. Channel groups and access levels help, but the page does not describe separate client workspaces with their own brand kits and writing styles.
  • Approvals cost more and stop at your team. They need Team, and the page does not say how clients review posts outside your team.
  • LinkedIn profiles get less analytics than pages. Advanced analytics are listed for LinkedIn pages, not profiles. A team that publishes mostly from people's profiles should check what the basic analytics show.
  • Engagement is about replying. The community inbox covers replying to comments on your posts. If you also want to comment on other people's posts as part of your growth routine, check whether Buffer supports that.
  • The bill grows with every account. For a team of founders, each profile is another channel, and each channel is another $5 or $10 a month.

Is Buffer Worth It in 2026?

It depends on who you are.

  • Solo creator or founder on a few networks: Yes. Free or Essentials does the job at a low price, and the 2 x $5 = $10 example is hard to beat for simple scheduling.
  • Small business posting to Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and LinkedIn: Yes, this is what Buffer is built for. One tool, many networks, one queue.
  • LinkedIn-first B2B team with several people posting: Maybe. Team gives you approvals and unlimited users. Test whether the AI sounds like each person, whether carousels fit your workflow, and whether the LinkedIn analytics answer your questions.
  • Agency with clients on LinkedIn: Test it with two real clients before you move the roster. Price the whole roster, ask about the volume discount, and check how a client approves a post.
  • Large brand team that needs listening, customer care and a complex approval chain: Buffer's pricing page does not list those, so look at the heavier suites. Our Hootsuite pricing breakdown is a good place to start.

If you are comparing Buffer with a LinkedIn growth tool rather than another scheduler, our Buffer vs Taplio comparison lays out that trade-off.

Run the 14-day trial like a test. Connect the channels you actually use, schedule a real week, and invite a teammate to see what the approval step looks like.

When Postiv Is the Better Fit

Buffer is a good multi-network scheduler. Postiv is built for LinkedIn-first teams and agencies that need content made in each person's own voice, with the workflow around it. LinkedIn comes first, with X as a second channel.

  • Writing in each person's voice. Bob, Postiv's AI content partner, plans the posting week with one idea per slot, tied to content pillars, sources and last week's results. It drafts posts and carousels in each LinkedIn profile's own writing style, using that profile's knowledge base of websites, documents, YouTube, Notion and newsletters.
  • Carousels and images in the editor. Posts, carousels, images and infographics are made on your brand in a built-in editor, with no round trip to Canva.
  • Client workspaces. Each agency client has a separate workspace with its own profiles, company pages, brand kit and writing styles. Clients review posts as they will look on LinkedIn through an approval link, with no Postiv account needed. See client workspaces for agencies.
  • One calendar for every profile. Every profile, company page and channel sits in one calendar with posting slots and an automatic first comment. See scheduling in Postiv or the LinkedIn post scheduler.
  • Engagement. Every comment on every profile lands in one inbox, and a feed of people you want to reach lets you comment on their posts.
  • Official API, no automation. Postiv publishes to LinkedIn personal profiles and company pages through LinkedIn's official API. There is no Chrome extension, no browser automation and no automated connection requests or DMs.

More Questions

What is Buffer pricing?

Buffer charges per channel, not per user. A channel is one connected social account, such as one LinkedIn page, one LinkedIn profile or one Instagram profile. The Free plan covers up to 3 channels at $0. Essentials costs $6 per channel per month ($5 billed yearly) and Team costs $12 per channel per month ($10 billed yearly). Prices were checked on Buffer's pricing page on October 19, 2026.

What is the Buffer cost per month?

It depends on how many channels you connect. One channel costs $0 on Free, $6 a month on Essentials ($5 billed yearly) and $12 a month on Team ($10 billed yearly). Two channels on Essentials billed yearly cost 2 x $5 = $10 a month. Six channels on Team billed yearly cost 6 x $10 = $60 a month, which is $720 a year.

Does a Start Page count as a channel on Buffer?

Yes. Buffer's pricing page says a Start Page, its link-in-bio page, counts as a channel towards your plan. If you use one on a paid plan, it is billed like any other channel.

Are LinkedIn profiles and company pages billed separately on Buffer?

Each one is a channel, so each is billed. Buffer lists LinkedIn pages and LinkedIn profiles as separate channel types. So a founder with a personal profile and a company page uses 2 channels, which is 2 x $5 = $10 a month on Essentials billed yearly.

Does Buffer include approval workflows on the cheaper plans?

No. Approval workflows and custom access and permissions are on the Team plan only ($12 per channel per month, or $10 billed yearly). Free and Essentials include 1 user, so there is no one to approve a post. Team includes unlimited users.

What happens to my channels when the Buffer trial ends?

If you do not add payment details, your account moves to the Free plan. Scheduled posts still publish, as long as their channels are not locked. Channels are locked if you have more than the 3 channels the Free plan allows. If you upgrade later, you pay for every channel, including the three you had on Free.

Is a Buffer subscription worth it?

It is worth it for solo creators and small businesses that post to a few networks and want a simple queue at a low price. It is a weaker fit for a LinkedIn-first B2B team that needs drafts in each person's voice, carousel design, client workspaces and client review. Check those four things in the 14-day trial before you pay.
