A scheduled post did not go out

Find out why a post is still waiting, expired or marked Failed, and how to get it published.

Postiv checks the queue every minute, and a scheduled post normally goes live within about a minute of its time. If yours has not, its status tells you why. Start there.

Check the post's status

  1. In the sidebar, click Schedule.
  2. Find the post in the calendar.
  3. Click the post to open it. The Post preview window opens. On the right, the Status badge says where the post is. For most statuses, a coloured message at the bottom of the same panel explains what happened.
Open Schedule, then click the post you are worried about.
The status badge and message explain what is happening.

Likely causes and fixes

If the message is a short technical code such as provider_rejected_401, LinkedIn refused the request, which usually means the connection is no longer valid. Follow the LinkedIn is disconnected fix below.

The post is waiting for approval

If the profile has approvers, a post stays in Pending Approval until one of them approves it. It never goes out before that. If the scheduled time passes first, the status becomes Expired with the message "Not approved before scheduled time". Ask the approver to approve in time, then use Reschedule. See Approvals.

LinkedIn is disconnected

The message says "LinkedIn connection expired or was revoked. Reconnect your LinkedIn account to publish this post." Click the Reconnect LinkedIn link in the message, or follow LinkedIn disconnected or expired.

LinkedIn had a temporary problem

For timeouts, rate limits and LinkedIn server errors, Postiv tries again by itself, up to 5 attempts in total, with longer waits in between (1, 5, 15 and 60 minutes). Only after that does the post become Failed, and the message shows the last error.

The post has no text

LinkedIn does not accept a post without text. The message reads "Post text is required." Add text, then schedule it again.

Carousels (PDF documents) and videos need a moment on LinkedIn before they can be attached. Postiv waits and retries every minute, and for videos it keeps trying for around 20 minutes. If they never finish, the post becomes Failed.

It was scheduled too close to now

Pick a time at least 5 minutes ahead. The scheduler warns you with "Must be at least 5 minutes from now".

The profile was disconnected

Disconnecting a profile stops its queued publishing. The posts that were waiting show Failed with the message "Integration disconnected". Reconnect the profile in Settings, then LinkedIn Accounts, and schedule those posts again.

Get a failed post published

A post that failed is not sent again automatically, even after you fix the cause. Once the problem is solved:

  1. Open the failed post in Schedule and copy its text if you need it.
  2. Schedule it again from the chat or draft where you wrote it, or ask Bob to schedule it again.

Common questions

The post went live but without its image.

If an image fails to upload to LinkedIn, the post can still go out as text only. Carousels, PDFs and videos do not do this. They fail instead. Email carolina@postiv.ai with the post and we will look into it.

My Comment Plug comment did not appear.

The comment is posted after your post goes live, once your delay passes. Your post is published even if the comment cannot be added. See Add an automatic first comment.

Does the post publish if I close Postiv?

Yes. Scheduled posts are published from our servers, not your browser.
