Add an automatic first comment with Comment Plug

Comment Plug posts a comment on your own post a few minutes after it goes live. People use it for a link, a resource, a call to action or a follow-up thought. You write the comments once for a profile, then decide per post whether to use them.

Set up Comment Plug for a profile

1. Open Settings, then Comment Plug.
2. Under LinkedIn Profile, choose the profile or company page you are setting up.
3. Set Delay After Publish (minutes). The minimum is 2.
4. Choose a Variant Selection Mode:
   • Random picks one of your variants at random.
   • Context-Aware Routing lets AI pick the best variant for each post, based on the "Use this when" hints you add.
5. Under Comment Variants, write your first comment in Comment Text. It can be up to 1,250 characters.
6. Optional: add a Use This When (optional) hint, such as "Use when the post is a how-to", and a Comment Image (optional). Images can be JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP, up to 20 MB.
7. Click Add Variant to write more. You can have up to 5.

Changes save as you type. A small Saving… then Saved note appears at the bottom right.

Your profile's Comment Plug is on as soon as at least one variant has text. There is no master switch. You turn it off for individual posts when you schedule.

Choose a comment for each post

When you schedule a post, the scheduler has its own Comment Plug control.

1. Open the scheduling window for the post you want to publish. In Schedule, click Add Post, or use Schedule in the editor.
2. In the Schedule Post section, find Comment Plug and pick an option:
   • Use profile Comment Plug posts one of the variants you saved in Settings.
   • Custom comments for this post lets you write up to 5 comments just for this post. Each one has its own Publish after delay in minutes, and the delay starts when the post is published.
   • Turn off Comment Plug for this post posts nothing.
3. Finish scheduling as usual.

The small gear icon next to Comment Plug opens the settings in a new tab. If a profile has no Comment Plug yet, the scheduler says so and links you to Configure it first. You can also edit a scheduled post's comments later by editing the post.

If you are asked to reconnect LinkedIn

Profiles connected a while ago may need one fresh sign-in before Postiv can comment for them. If you see Reconnect LinkedIn to use Comment Plug, click Reconnect LinkedIn and approve access again. It takes about 30 seconds and none of your posts or settings change. Until then, no comment is added. See LinkedIn disconnected if the reconnect does not work.

Common questions

When does the comment appear?

After the post is published, once the delay you set has passed. If Postiv cannot add the comment, your post is still published.

Can I add more than one comment to a post?

Yes, with Custom comments for this post you can add up to 5, each with its own delay. Your saved profile variants post one comment per post.

Can the comment include a picture?

Yes. Add a Comment Image (optional) to a variant, or Add image to a custom comment.

Why is the profile picker empty?

Comment Plug needs a connected LinkedIn profile. Connect one in LinkedIn Accounts first. See Connect your LinkedIn account.

Does it reply to comments on my post?

No. Comment Plug only posts your own first comment. To answer people, use the Engage inbox.
