Carousel will not download or export

Fix a stuck or failed PDF or PNG download, and a carousel that will not prepare for scheduling.

Postiv builds your carousel PDF (or infographic PNG) right in your browser, one slide at a time, and uses the same file for downloading and for scheduling. If an export stalls or fails, the cause is almost always a font or image that did not load, an edit that has not saved, or a browser running low on memory.

How export works

Each slide is drawn at 1080 by 1350 pixels. A carousel can have up to 30 slides and downloads as one PDF. An infographic is a single image and downloads as a PNG. While it works you will see "Preparing PDF…" and then "Preparing slide 2 of 8…". When it is done the toast says Downloaded. If any slide fails, Postiv stops and never gives you a half-finished PDF.

Try the export again

  1. Open the carousel. You can find it in Drafts under Carousels, or in the chat where Bob made it.
  2. Check the save status in the editor header, right under the title (your carousel's name, or Carousel studio or Infographic studio if it has none). It should say Saved. If it says Unsaved changes, wait a moment. If it says Save failed, see the section on saving below. If it says AI is editing · temporarily locked, wait for Bob to finish.
  3. Click the download button in the toolbar. It is labelled PDF (Download PDF when you hover over it), and on a narrow editor it shows only as a download icon. For an infographic it is PNG.
  4. Stay on the page until the toast says Downloaded.
The PDF button and the save status in the carousel editor.

If it fails, you will see "Export failed:" followed by the reason. The reason tells you which fix to use.

Fixes by symptom

"Export failed: Could not load" and a font name

A font in your design did not load. The message says "Check your connection" or "Choose another font or try again." Check your internet, try again, or select the text and pick a different font.

An image is missing or "Could not load this image"

Refresh your image library, then try again. If one image keeps failing, replace it with a fresh upload.

The export is very slow or the page freezes

Postiv draws only one slide at a time to keep memory low, but a long carousel with many large images still takes a while, especially on a phone. Close other tabs, wait for the slide counter to move, and try again on a laptop or desktop if the problem continues.

You see this when you try to add a page past the limit. Remove a slide or split the story into two carousels.

"Your latest edit is still saving" when you click Schedule

Scheduling uses your saved version. Wait for the save status to say Saved, then click Schedule again. You may also see "The carousel changed while preparing. Please try again." if you edited during preparation. Do not edit while it prepares, and keep the window open while it shows "Uploading export… Keep this window open."

The message reads "This carousel changed elsewhere. Download your draft before reloading the latest version." or "New changes arrived while you were editing." Someone else, or another tab of yours, saved a newer version. Click PDF to keep a copy of what you have, then reload the page to load the latest version.

Saving problems

If the status says Save failed, your latest edit did not reach Postiv. Download the PDF first so your work is safe. Then check your connection and make another small edit, which asks Postiv to save again.

After a successful export

A carousel is published to LinkedIn as a PDF document. LinkedIn needs a moment to process it after Postiv sends it, so a carousel post can take a few minutes to appear. If a scheduled carousel shows Failed, see A scheduled post did not go out.

Common questions

The PDF looks different from the editor.

Check that every font and image shows correctly in the editor first, because export uses exactly what you see. Then export again.

Can I download a single slide as an image?

Infographics download as a PNG. Carousels download as one PDF with every slide.

Will a downloaded PDF match what gets scheduled?

Yes. Downloading and scheduling use exactly the same pixels.
