Write and edit text posts

Ask Bob for a draft or write your own, then polish it in the LinkedIn-style editor before you schedule it.

Every text post starts as a conversation with Bob or as a blank page you write yourself. Either way it opens in the editor beside the chat, looks like a real LinkedIn post, and saves as a draft automatically.

Ask Bob to write a post

  1. Click New chat in the sidebar.
  2. Check the profile picker next to the message box. It shows who the post is for (hover it to see Writing for and the profile name). Switch it if you manage more than one profile.
  3. Type what you want, for example a topic, a story, or a rough idea. The box says "Tell me what you want to create... Use @ to tag a file". Press Send.
  4. Bob writes the post and opens it on the right, under the label LinkedIn Post. Ask for changes in the chat ("shorter hook", "less salesy") and Bob updates the same draft.

Bob writes in the voice you have set up. If a post does not sound like you yet, see Teach Bob your writing voice.

Write a post yourself

  1. Open any chat and click Write post in the top toolbar. On a blank chat you can also click Write it myself.
  2. A blank post opens in the editor. Start typing where it says "Start a post...".

Double-click the title at the top of the editor to rename the draft.

Start from a template

  1. In the chat box, click the + button and choose Use a template.
  2. In Pick a template ("Hook patterns to shape your next post"), search or scroll and click one.
  3. Tell Bob what the post is about. He follows the template's opening pattern.

Edit in the editor

The post editor looks like a LinkedIn post, so you see what your audience sees.

The toolbar above the post gives you:

  • Undo and Redo.
  • Bold, Italic and Strikethrough. LinkedIn has no built-in formatting, so Postiv swaps your selected text for special characters that LinkedIn shows as bold or italic.
  • Bulleted list and Numbered list. Press Enter at the end of a list line to continue the list, and again on an empty line to end it.
  • Tag a person or company (@ mention) to tag someone on LinkedIn. Type their name and press Enter to insert them.
  • Insert hashtag, quick symbols (arrow, bullet, checkbox) and the Emoji picker.
  • Manage tags (the tag icon) to add your own tags to the post.
  • Desktop and Mobile switch the preview so you can check how the post wraps on a phone.

The counter at the bottom shows your length out of 3,000 characters, the LinkedIn limit. If you go over, it turns red and says Over limit, and you cannot schedule until you trim.

Edit part of a post with AI

  1. Select the sentence or paragraph you want to change.
  2. Click the Edit with AI hint that appears, or press Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows).
  3. Describe the change in the box ("What should I change?") and send it.
  4. Read the proposed rewrite. Click Accept (or press Enter) to keep it, or Reject (or press Esc) to discard it. You can also type a follow-up instruction to refine it.
Select text and press Cmd+K. Accept or reject the rewrite when it appears.

Saving and version history

Postiv saves your edits automatically every 10 seconds. The indicator at the bottom right reads Saving..., Unsaved or Saved. The Schedule button waits until everything is saved.

Once a post has more than one version, a versions link appears at the bottom (for example "3 versions"). Open it and click Restore next to any earlier version to bring it back.

When the post is ready

Once a post is scheduled it is locked in the editor. Click Unschedule on the banner at the top of the post to edit it again.

Common questions

Can I write for a different profile?

Yes. Use the profile picker next to the message box before you start. For an existing draft, use the picker at the bottom left of the editor ("Assign post to"). It only appears if you have more than one profile.

Why is Schedule greyed out?

You have unsaved changes. Wait a few seconds for the indicator to read Saved. If the post is over 3,000 characters, Schedule shows an error instead, so trim the text first.

Where do my drafts go?

Everything lands in Drafts in the sidebar. You can also reopen the conversation from Chats.
