Work with Bob in chats

Start a chat, give Bob the right context, find old conversations and work on drafts side by side.

A chat is a conversation with Bob. It is where posts, carousels, infographics and images get made. Each chat is saved, so you can come back to it later, and anything Bob creates for you is saved as a draft straight away.

Start a new chat

There are three ways to start:

  • Click New chat in the sidebar, right under Chats.
  • Type a message in the Ask Bob box on Home.
  • Open Chats and click New chat.

A blank chat shows a few suggested prompts. Under them you will find three shortcuts:

  • Write it myself opens a blank post for you to write by hand.
  • Open this week's plan takes you to Home.
  • Interview me lets Bob ask a few short questions and turn your answers into a draft.

Talk to Bob

  1. Choose who Bob writes for. The profile picker on the left of the message box is labelled Writing for LinkedIn Profile. Pick a profile, or No Styling to write without a profile's voice.
  2. Type your message. Click the microphone (Record voice message) if you would rather speak.
  3. Add context. Click the + button (Attach) to Upload image, Pick from library or Use a template. The same menu has a Carousel AI images switch (Beta) for carousels with generated images. Type @ to tag one of your files so Bob works from that document.
  4. Send. Click Send or press Enter. While Bob is answering, the send button turns into a stop button (Stop response) in case you want him to stop mid-answer.
The message box: profile picker, message field, attach menu and Send.

Bob sometimes replies with quick multiple choice cards to narrow things down. Tap an answer and he carries on.

Work on a draft next to the chat

When Bob writes a post or carousel, it opens in an editor on the right, next to the conversation.

  • Drag the divider between the two panels to give either side more room.
  • Double-click the title above the draft to rename it.
  • Close the editor with the X in its top right corner. The draft stays in Drafts.
  • Keep chatting to change it: "make the opening punchier", "cut it to 150 words", "turn this into a carousel".
The chat on the left and the draft on the right. Drag the divider to resize.

Find and resume past chats

Open Chats in the sidebar. Your conversations are grouped under Today, Previous 7 days and Earlier.

  1. Type in Search chats to filter by title or profile name.
  2. Click a conversation to reopen it exactly where you left off.
  3. Click Load more chats at the bottom if the list is long.
Search, open or delete a chat from the Chats page.

Your three most recent chats also appear under Recent in the sidebar on larger screens.

Delete a chat

  1. On the Chats page, click the bin icon next to a chat.
  2. Confirm with Delete. The message says "This permanently removes the chat and its messages."

Drafts Bob created in that chat stay in Drafts.

Tips

  • Be specific about the angle, the audience and the length you want.
  • Chats started from an idea on Home carry the idea along as a card, so you do not need to explain it again.

Common questions

Can my teammates see my chats?

No. Chats belong to you and are not shown to teammates.

I closed a chat by accident. Is my work lost?

No. Open Chats, or Recent in the sidebar, and click the conversation. The draft is also in Drafts.

Can I rename a chat?

Chats cannot be renamed. You can rename the draft inside a chat by double-clicking its title.
